>>How do I get $2.2M dollars?

Get $3.5m and give away $1.3m. You'll have exactly what you asked for.

If you get atop job, salary plus options you could do it. Of course, unless you spend it.

>>after a woman complained to Human Resource

Did you miss this^^? She complained. Maybe she complained to get back at him but still, she complained.

Bill Gates also dated and married a subordinate. Poor woman, where was Gloria Allred to save her...

No I didn't miss it. That's what I'm saying -- there has to be something beyond "consensual relationship with subordinate" going on here. The fact that someone complained to HR supports that hypothesis.

My point was that sleeping with subordinates is not historically the kind of thing that gets people fired at Google. I make no claim about whether that's good or bad (whether or not that should ever be ok is a different discussion), just an observation that that's the way it has been, which (along with the HR complaint) indicates to me that this wasn't a simple case of Rubin sleeping with a subordinate.

Please don't comment like this again, it breaks the guidelines by being uncivil and unsubstantive.

Investors like him and Buffet see gold as something just sitting there. if you buy a company, they will increase earnings, market share etc.

Gold just sits on a vault--which is a great thing for rich people to use a small % of their wealth for. Just in case. Gold has other uses and a 5000+ year history. Compare it to hundreds of coins out there

I think the headline is right. Any bitcoin owners best transfer to me whatever they have, just in case.

In all seriousness: The govt wants its taxes. We're talking HUNDREDS of billions now in coin value, not millions. Sure they are traceable, but at what cost? They can't pay $100K in fees to run blockchain audits to see if what you declared was correct or not...

USA has made virtually every bank in the world spend gazillions to report every account opened by a US person, Bitcoin is probably a walk in the park compared to that.

I thought that everyone who mined had a complete copy of the blockchain along with the current balance of every wallet. Therefore shouldn't it be rather cheap to audit it?

Well it worked for them, they're worth at least $50B (Softbank wants to buy shares at that price.)

They might have to pay a few billion in fines or damages but that's all. New CEO will apologize and we'll forget it. And that is because they got caught...

Not defending them, just saying in many cases these tactics work.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tencent $500+ BILLION market cap, and stakes in a lot of top companies. Imagine if they truly entered the US /EU market

Tencent can’t even effectively enter non-mainland Chinese markets (HK, Taiwan, Singapore, etc...) or the countries surrounding the PRC (Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam, India, Russia, Korea, ....). Their scope is very china limited, where they have no experience competing with international contenders.

WeChat is pretty big in Hong Kong now. I was on Hong Kong MTR last week and half of the people standing around me used WeChat within 10 mins.

Still not as big as Facebook in the SAR. Also, none of the other functions work beyond mobile payments for mainland tourists.

No stores in HK accept weixin wallet, so it is kinda useless

Not gonna happen IMO. If they start to succeed, expect stories of how everything is being spied on by the Chinese govt. Which is a legitimate concern.

No Google or FB in China, no TenCent in USA either...

As opposed to all the American spy... analytics companies?

Missed my point: First it is only fair. You cause problem for our Google and Facebook expect the same. That's fairness and economic patriotism. Not to mention that Google and Facebook "own" or can own US Congress and Senate. Hearings will start in days.

I believe that in authoritarian regimes you have ZERO choice or recourse. See Russia or Al-Waleed in Saudi Arabia. They will simply shut you down, break you in a gazillion pieces.

In USA you have courts at least. Have you noticed that Google is pushing encryption all over the web to make NSA's job harder or impossible? Let Alibaba or TenCent help thwarting FSB or China's security services

This was great perspective and excellent points. Love that the Silicon Valley boys are redoubling efforts in this area.

As it should be, quid pro quo, fair trade...

Yes...eventually. Not the first obviously. Accidents do happen but like airplane crashes the self-driving ones will hit the news, ignoring the xxxx driver car accidents that week /month...

>>Profs are peaking at under $200k, the vast majority well under $100k. Contrast that with Comms directors making $250k.

Comms directors provide more immediate returns, namely fundraising and spinning. However, top professors can write their ticket just to say they're there and earn a fortune on the side.

Who knows, maybe they'll end up doing a different #3, put the cash in their pocket, while creators get paid with funny money. Lotsa scams as people try to catch the next bitcoin

After reading the YouNow whitepaper, I am unsure how to argue that they are not doing exactly that

Or, pay them $25 an hour and no one will complain.
