Me too! I'm a big fan of Rob Robinette's guitar amp page [1] for similar reasons

[1] https://robrobinette.com/Amp_Stuff.htm

robrob is basically a real-life Buckaroo Banzai... amp technician, car/motorcycle enthusiast, world helicopter champion, sharpshooter, sysadmin, ham, and owner of at least one Kei truck. We can all only hope to be as cool as him when we grow up.

I think a lot of the larger form-factor/larger capacity models are still shuckable, though sometimes you still have to put kapton tape on one of the pins to allow it to work with a normal machine.

It's easier to cut the 3.3v wire from the power supply. If you have color coded wires, it'll be the orange wire; if not, it'll be the same color as every other wire.

To a first approximation, nothing ever uses 3.3v from sata power, so it made sense to remove it from the spec. Reusing the pins so that 3.3v inhibits functionality was kind of crazy though.

Pin 3 on the power connector used to be constant 3.3V, but its purpose changed to keeping the drive in a low-power shutdown state for enabling e.g. staggered spinup: https://www.tomshardware.com/news/hdd-sata-power-disable-fea...

Yep.

And when that's a problem, it's fine to just cut and insulate 3.3v wire that feeds the power supply's SATA connectors.

After this modification, the machine thus becomes compatible with all SATA hard drives, whether old or new or shucked or whatever.

(Not much (if anything) in SATA land ever used 3.3v, and it's completely likely that nothing ever will. AFAICT, that voltage was deprecated with the release of revision 3.3 of the SATA specifications, from nearly a decade ago in February of '16.)

No, I don't think you'd see much benefit if you're already within a healthy BMI range. Generally, drugs like Ozempic or Wegovy are going to make you feel less hungry and, when you do eat, make you feel full faster. If you struggle maintaining a healthy weight without torturing yourself, or reducing cravings for food/binge eating, it can be great.

Note: I'm not a doctor, just someone who has been prescribed a similar medication.

Stealth Health Startup | Senior Fullstack Engineer (Typescript) | San Francisco, CA (US) | Hybrid on-site schedule (3 days onsite, 2 days remote) | Full-time

We're a seed-stage health tech company with a mission to make the highest quality healthcare accessible to everyone. Starting with chronic health conditions we're building a service that allows patients to manage their holistic care including consulting with multi-disciplinary providers, managing medications, and engaging with a community of patients in similar situations. Based on the past success of our founder as well as our traction, we've attracted a massive seed round ($40m+) from a number of major VC firms to help ensure that we have the time and space to build the right team, company and product for our patients. We're currently operating in stealth mode but have already seen very rapid growth over the past 6 months ($Xm in run rate growing at 20-30% month over month). The team is small (4 engineers + 10 or so ops, biz, clinical team members) but we're looking to bring on another 10 senior engineers by the end of the year to help build the foundational platform for our business.

We build our software using Typescript on the backend and frontend, and utilize technologies like Next.JS, and React on the frontend, and NestJS, Node.js, and Postgresql on the backend. We're currently looking for engineers who feel comfortable working full-stack, but our needs skew more to the backend at the moment. We have an office located in downtown San Francisco a couple of minutes walking distance from Embarcadero Station and we work a hybrid schedule with 3 days in-office and 2 days WFH every week.

If you're interested in having more ownership and responsibility over your systems, and working in a fast-paced, challenging and rewarding environment, please email me at ornellasmike@protonmail.com to chat more about the opportunity.

What makes bitcoin different other than it being older than the rest of the pack?

Bitcoin is the only currency that's leaderless, decentralized, belongs to no company or some 30 years-old "CEO", and is contributed to much like the Linux kernel. You could compare it to TCP/IP versus proprietary protocols du jour.

Or just Google "what sets bitcoin apart to other cryptos".

That really depends on which part of the city you’re in, my neighborhood is a sea of strollers!

I guess, but I'm just saying walking downtown you just don't see families, kids anywhere...whereas in most other cities you see kids, families, retirees, students, workers, etc in the "public centers" of a city.

My experience is only anecdotal, but I think most city centers I've spent much time in (Austin, Houston, Tokyo) haven't had many families around during the work week either. If you go to fisherman's wharf, you'll find it crawling with families (undeniably mostly tourists), and most weekends you'll find Union Square swarmed as well.

Do you also live in Noe Valley? I'm surrounded by children and strollers on the J most days.

I feel like this does a disservice to a prospective React developer in that, the hard part isn't finding what all the options are for each of these areas, its finding the one to start with. I'd love to see an _opinionated_ roadmap that tells you what to learn and in what order, and then informs you of other options at your disposal.
