I wish this was easily turned off in teh settings or other method natively. Until I jailbroke my device, reading in bed wasn't very easy.

I read (I think on DaringFireball) that the iPad will have an orientation lock switch, which will prevent it from rotating.

As a note to that, the iPad has a hardware rotation lock switch.
