You should compare 1999 Yahoo Mail to Gmail or Fastmail of today. I don't think you'd prefer the former.

I don't think your examples relevant because they are well in the realm of "apps" and not "info browsing" OP talks about.


And that's mainly due to what, though? AJAX? (Ignoring other enhancements.) And I'm excepting out a lot of "apps", because the browser has gotten more powerful, sure (and software dev has progressed). But mostly content sites that aren't heavy on any real interaction, iow, sites I "surf". Things just feel ... sluggish at a UI level (not the old sluggish of watching progressive JPEGs slowly refine).
