So because he's laying the blame at the wrong door then he, and so many others in his predicament, don't deserve empathy?

The man is a pilot not a political anorak/economist/pundit. It would be more helpful to point out where the blame lies: lobbying, party/campaign financing, unfair trade agreements etc.
