I saw the twist video. And it seems just like slack. Slack, but guys please observe discipline. The UI, design, philosophy everything is identical to slack.
You feel forced to respond to slack chats, so just chill and respond only when you want to. This is literally in the video.
The thread loses track of the topic, so we have exactly the same hierarchy and groupings like slack, but guys please just use the thread for the topic only. This is literally in the video.
Chats are annoying and people keep disturbing you in slack. We have "messages", perfect for small groups and individual conversations. Again, exactly like slack, but let's all promise to be not annoying.
The UI and app look great, I can see that folks really worked hard on this thing. But there is zero differentiation from slack. It looks like somebody took slack, re-colored it, and put "calmer and more organized" on the website.

This isn't quite right. The way Twist shows threads and information is a lot closer to email, and there's a big difference in how it organizes information: on top of channels, which are based on groups or projects, it has threads as a base organizational unit.
UX does influence behaviour, afaik. The Twist UX facilitates and encourages long-form, on-topic discussion a LOT more than Slack. See also email: have you ever used email like Slack?
imo the main issue is actually that email + some mailing lists still has major advantages over Twist.
