Yes really. More gain means higher S/N ratio, therefore more bandwidth. Again, up to a certain point. Providers don't necessarily deliver an optimal antenna. See cheap home wifi routers for a real world example. Swapping their shit stock antennas for better clearly boosts bandwidth.
