MacOS will not be replaced by iOS, but they will bring UIKit to MacOS so you can port apps.

That sounds like they are unifying the two OS's to me, or I am mis-remembering the question Tim Cook answered with a definitive No?

No it sounds like exactly what they said.

You will be able to use UIKit to help port your apps across. But they aren't going to be merging all of the other parts of the OS together. Especially since iOS and OSX differ significantly in parts e.g. security posture.

They are just making it easier to port your ios apps to macos, how is that related to replacing macos?

More like: No...t yet

On stage Craig answers the question “will macOS and iOS merge” with a big NO, at least for as long as the guy is still with Apple.

>at least for as long as the guy is still with Apple.

This is nothing new. They've said things on stage that they've literally reversed on a year later.

Aside from Steve Jobs surprising the Facetime team with his open source announcement (and honestly, any Steve Jobs claims in general), what are you referring to?

Large phones was one. They specifically bashed the competition the year before saying that they weren't ergonomic.

The UIKit apps on macOS will require a pointing device like a mouse or trackpad. macOS is not becoming a touch-oriented OS.

That was Craig Federighi, by the way.
