The state of web page performance is pretty bad and could be so much better.
In 275 tests of 75 news articles the average page size was 3.6MB, made 345 requests, and took 46 seconds to load (on a ā3Gā connection using WebPageTest.org)
Investopedia, the fastest site profiled at webperf.xyz, still places at least image 4 banner ads. So it's possible to support yourself with web advertising and still be fast.

Some publishers can load in seconds (with advertising etc) so there is little excuse. We know how to fix this.
