I started getting suspicious of The Wirecutter when they reviewed bike racks and concluded that the best kind is the type that attaches to the trunk lid with hooks and straps. To anyone who has carried a bike on a car more than once, it's obvious that these are the worst kind, by far. But they are also the cheapest, by far. It's like saying that the best computer to buy is a $300 Chromebook, and it makes me question their judgement on all products.
