As an American moving to Switzerland, I knew tipping was uncommon, so initially, I didn’t. Now I’ve settled on the “round up” method to save everyone counting coins (round up to the next nice number, so no more than 2-5CHF).

Am I doing it wrong?

You are doing it exactly right.

Exceptions are when you spend a long time and things (service, ambiance, whatever) stand out to you and your party: then feel welcome to tip whatever you like.

But an important observation is that here money is respected. 0,10 0,50 1,00 it is all treated with respect. This is why "overtipping" is frowned upon.

No. Tipping is not a source of income in most of Europe. More places are even distributing the money or it may go to owner.
