Tarsnap user here and I second your love of its pricing model. Business folks don't seem to like it though and prefer the bucket model. I think love for this model stems from an engineering mindset where we're happiest aligning our interests with our customers'.
I read about Michelin's case somewhere that I found interesting. Apparently Michelin doesn't sell tires to trucking companies - they sell miles. So they're incentivized to make better tires and miles is all their customers care about and they don't have to worry about whether Michelin is deliberately making bad tires just to make more money. Same "utility" logic here I think.
