I'm not sure I agree fully with the premise, as anti-intellectualism has been around since at least as far back as my grandparents could remember. The author does have a point in that we may be at a low point, given the two people running for the highest office in the most powerful country in the world are a scummy, boorish real-estate developer and a half-senile plagiarist.
