Do people who are lactose intolerant - like most Japanese people - have any issues eating butter? Or is the butter sold in Japan adapted to remove lactose?

Cheese has lower levels of lactose generally. Probably the same with butter?

Butter is so pricey in Japan that you would not risk eating much of it. Most pastries are devoid of it (even croissants, which make for a surprising taste when you know the real thing).
