Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. I got put onto this quote/video by @garry here on HN, when he included it in his most recent YouTube video where he discusses how he made his channel grow & be successful. It's definitely something I've struggled with for a long time, and I wish I had found it sooner.
It's missing the bit where he explains that doing good work is in many fields (in precisely the ones that people are attracted to) is not enough to sustain yourself. You need to be super good or be lucky, have connections or some other form advantage.
