They're monetizing the app and forcing mobile users onto it. The desktop site is just a way for them to acquire mobile users.


I'm curious, what makes the mobile app easier to monetize than their mobile web version? I get that push notifications can help bring people back, but other than that what benefit do they get by forcing people from web to native?


No ad blockers in the app.


Glad they haven't restricted API access other than newer shit features. I'm going to be sad when Apollo stops working one day as it is an amazing iOS experience.
