Because it’s time consuming so you have to be paid for this. So you have to sell honey that will suffer the competition of cheap industrial honey.

However, you can have a hive in your land just for the sake of feeding bees (and eat your own honey).

I don’t know how it works in your country, in France, you can legally do it as long as your terrain is large enough to place the hive 20m away any habitation (100m away if it’s a public building). You are also required to follow a 3 day training. It’s not that much but it requires some self-investment.

So I would say that it’s not common but it is totally possible.



Isn't having bees part of the problem? Your honey-bees will compete with local pollinators.
