+1 for Apollo 11. I took a day off to watch it on IMAX when it came out and it couldn't have been more worth it. I was very surprised how much the movie moved me. Just one minute in when you see Armstrong get into his space suit almost had me start crying. No idea where that came from. I guess seeing humanity do something incredible like that for once is something I really needed
Yes! Definitely see it in IMAX or Omnimax if you can. I didn't get to see the full film in IMAX, but I've seen the museum cut on OmniMax 5 or 6 times. (My 5 y/o daughter wanted to see it every time we went to our local science museum and who was I to argue? >smile<)
The film was (and is) immensely moving to me.
For me, the big moment was the footage from the command module looking down at the moon as the LEM ascends. At first the LEM is invisible. Then it's a nearly imperceptible dot amd you're unsure you're really seeing it. Finally it resolves into a definite object. Those moments moved me to tears. I pointed up at the screen and said to my daughter "That's them! That's Neil and Buzz and they're coming home!"
I knew the outcome, obviously, but I felt I could at least imagine the feelings Michael Collins was having, watching his two companions' spacecraft drawing closer-- not yet "out of the woods" but definitely moving in the right direction.
