Kwan’s Hierarchy of Product Needs: The Four Levels of Product Managers (heavybit.com)

Slightly off topic from the original post, but a big fan of the Heavybit library[1] which is a wealth of great content for startups, but especially dev tools focused ones. There are a few favorites I find myself linking to on an almost weekly basis such as Michael Dearing's talk on effective executive communication[2] or Adam Gross's on self serve/developer go to market[3]. Between the conferences/talk series/podcasts/blog posts such a great collection of content.

Thanks for sharing this. I just watched the video on executive communication and believe what I learned from it will be extremely useful.

I like the simplicity of the pyramid but.. Why is the Senior PM not talking to customers?

Seems to be in the text if not the summary image:

> On the customer front, the PM needs to be able to creatively draw out real customer needs. This survey and interview technique is more of an art than a science, and comes with experience.

I think she includes that under "challenges product market fit". In the writeup below the pyramid she talks about the planning PM's skill of eliciting high value information from customers.
