Last time I checked, the RPI to really be unlocked needs an additional PCIe line. IIRC, right now, I think there's just one, and the consumer board uses it for USB. The blade edition makes it available on the connector, but then you have to choose between network or storage. It'd be ideal if there were three PCIe lines, one for usb, one for network, one for storage.


Or you need a PCIe switch on the base-board, and those are practically impossible to get without a giant NDA.

My kingdom for a PCIe switch chip that's as easy to use as the TUSB series of hub chips.


I think the Pi 4 and above don't have that issue any more? I could be wrong
