I go back and forth between hosting everything myself for a year or two, then deciding its not worth the time and effort and just signing up for what ever services I need. Then I go back to self hosting again a year later...

I am not sure why I self host. I think it's the engineer in me that just needs to understand how things work, and I need to tinker. It's a hobby more than anything.
