Ask HN: How can we prevent flooding in houses using technology?

1/ Waterproof wall or dyke that shields the house.

2/ Waterproof doors and windows.

3/ Vent-like holes in the floor at the entrances that suck water and reroute it out of the house through a pump.

4/ Spray-on substance that can be used to seal doors and windows temporarily.

5/ Structural frame below the house that can lift it.

6/ House is mobile home which can be lifted by a crane.

7/ House is a house boat which can be untethered from the ground so it floats.

Do these sound workable? Any other ideas?

Don't build a house on a flood plain.

And don't build a house inside a reservoir.

Some people saved their houses with soil berms 3-4 feet high, fronted by plastic and a pump inside to remove infiltration.
