Fascinating. We don't ask race on the census here in Canada; the question asks about "ethnic and ancestral origin" with emphasis on linguistic and geographic origin. It's an open-ended response and multiple responses are encouraged.
Typical answers would be like: English, French, Chinese, Cree, Irish-Italian. Sometimes it's filled out as British Canadian, Korean Canadian, etc. And sometimes white and black Canadian are reported. But by far the most common response is, perhaps somewhat unhelpfully, "Canadian".
Glad that the data shows "race" is BS. Real science knows this but as we've all experienced/observed, no one likes real science =) So its perpetuated by "entertainment science". Whats alarming is it became legal definitions of people here in America not to mention perversely political.
Take this example for instance ... ask anyone what race is Barack Obama? He has both European and African ancestry but is categorically, as in a matter of fact only black. The white side is completely neglected. When we look into why this is its deeply rooted in politics and slavery.
