Anti-Mimetic Tactics for Living a Counter-Cultural Life (epsilontheory.com)

Note that mimetic theory [0] differs from memetics [1]. It also differs from mimesis (in general) [2].

The author does not make this mistake (at least not conflating 0 and 1). But unaware readers (and misspellers) are often confused by the distinction.

Own yourself.

You are the only one who can truly judge your goals and how well you're meeting them. The world wants you to be responsible for something; there may well be a reason but you have to understand it and feel it yourself to be comfortable and confident in meeting that responsibility. Just having it assigned makes it a chore you can shirk, which you then might regret later.

This is how I have been living and I just want to go in the opposite direction somehow.

I love doing that. The more you do it, it gets easier too!

I miss the days when I traveled cross country with nothing but a Rand McNally atlas. To be free of the fear and anxiety of not knowing "where I am" (I am right here!) again is my current goal.

However, now that traffic can be a mess in most cities (which I feel is new), I favor using my smartphone to avoid those situations when I can, but mostly I favor avoiding cities and taking the "long way" to preserve my sanity.

I live in a van so this is more of a challenge for me than the average commuter.
