> because they don't want to compile their sound card drivers

I literally had to do this to get my sound card working on a new laptop recently. I know it is partially my fault for choosing such a new laptop and expecting Linux to work on it, but still... it's not an unreasonable expectation to have in 2022.

Nothing's special about 2022. The reason Linux doesn't work out of the box with things that aren't in a lot of developers' hands yet hasn't changed. What's reasonable about thinking that the year matters?
