Remember, a critical component to this working is that it's really expensive to get to Svalbard in a way that doesn't require a Schengen visa.

> Everybody may live and work in Svalbard indefinitely regardless of country of citizenship. The Svalbard Treaty grants treaty nationals equal right of abode as Norwegian nationals. Non-treaty nationals may live and work indefinitely visa-free as well.

On the other hand, if you can't support yourself, they'll deport you so you don't end up as polar bear chow https://icepeople.net/2021/07/24/our-editor-get-expelled-her...

This deportation process seems better than regular security checks you can go through in my country.

I know few people who would be happier in a Norwegian prison than in their houses.

But yeah, people should do their researches about CoL in this area

The freedom sounds interesting, the latitude deserves a second thought.

Longyearbyen (Administrative centre and largest town), Svalbard
  78°13′N 15°39′E

Nuuk (Capital and largest city), Greenland
  64°10′N 51°44′W
