…well I typed that as a joke but I’m reading their ToS now and find this:

Why did this post get flagged? It's a social network and the comments are mostly about the code and implementation. The title doesn't mention any political entity or person... ?
How well would Mastodon scale? If this is as succesful as Trump was on Twitter, it will draw tens of millions of users in a short time. Probably more than there ever has been on Mastodon.
Well signup is currently rate limited so its not like they can handle 10 million users on day one neither. It's still mastodon code, and it's pretty hypocritical/weird that they have a closed fork where they kick you off if you're deemed untruthful. They could have added capacity to the existing network and actually delivered on the anarchy/free speech angle.
You know that it needs to scale to a non-trivial number of users from scratch. So I would design for that (ie. not use a relational database like postgresql).
And you know that it is going to be controversial. So any sort of legal open source mumbojombo is going to be an issue and will be used against the project. And the federation features; that is just going to be an attack vector for spammers or hackers.
Any way curious to see what it becomes, and hear how it is actually implemented, if that ever gets out.
