We are already in the reality in which video evidence has equal weight to witness statements, it just requires one serious deepfake framing attempt (later detected) for everyone to internalize that.

also real time?

Private key authentication, anyone?

What is the key tied to, the person, the organization, or the device? Where do you obtain the public key? Which certificate authorities will you trust to verify the identify of public figures? Will any of this work under wartime conditions when people are moving around, using random webcams and mobile devices?

I see no particular reason why existing diplomatic courier services, chain of trust, and verification procedures can't be used for key exchange. What are the failure modes you are sceptical about?

>Will any of this work under wartime conditions when people are moving around, using random webcams and mobile devices?

Just follow the procedure to establish trust cryptographically, then arrange the meeting by any channel you like.

>Just follow the procedure to establish trust cryptographically,

ah, you figured it out!

I mean, it's not like governments don't have the financial means to figure something out...

Don't be naive. Governments can't solve hard technical and social problems just by throwing in more money. If that was true we would have working fusion power by now.

And in some parts of Ukraine, there is effectively no longer any government at all.

Big if true. If this is real, is it the first confirmed malicious use of realtime interactive video deepfake?

No because they also called Vienna and Madrid ;) Apparently the Vienna Mayor didn't notice a thing and even sent out a tweet afterwards. The other two at least got suspicious when the supposed Klitschko asked them weird questions.

But was it a deepfake or not? This is unprecedented if it was.

Klitschko said it was not him who had the calls with the mayors of Berlin and Vienna.

It's interesting that they ignored that whoever pretended to be Klitschko did not speak in German with them.

But I guess this is how it works, when you already trust the other person, you ignore this stuff and invent plausible explanations.

Most likely it's the two comedians from Russia who got banned on YouTube

Video finally going the way of images.
