Jon “maddog” Hall on dress codes for geeks (linux-magazine.com)

Secret International Geek and Nerd (SIGN) society rules mandate at least one piece of self 3-D printed jewelry displayed at all times as a "sign" of membership.

Extra geek cred points if the jewelry fluoresces in the dark or serves some other equally nerdy function.

As an example, I wear a fitness tracker wristband with the useless electronics replaced by a 3-D printed insert that securely and secretly holds a 64GB microSD card containing all my essential source code. My backup goes with me everywhere, even the shower.

The empty wristband can be bought from China in various styles and colors for about $1 each.

My insert is gray PLA but printing it face down on my heated printer bed produces a sort of steampunk, faux aluminum patina --- quite stylish and the ladies dig it (wink, wink, nod, nod).

By the way, I am the founding member of SIGN.
