And I think there's nothing wrong with that. Different tools for different strengths.

GIMP is excellent at image manipulation and doing various effects, not so much at drawing. Krita is the other way around.

Very true as well. Rarely do I not have both installed - I've just made a point of pushing artists to Krita as much as possible because too many who I know try the GIMP, get upset/annoyed, and give up.
