My rule of thumb for privacy as a founder and a voter: If you’ve created an online product, or are a interacting with people in any kind of life-critical capacity (doctor, lawyer, landlord, electrician, financial professional, life partner, politician, you name it, etc), you WILL have a very broad swath of clients and some may anger with you due to no fault of your own and try to hurt you in different ways (from murder attempts to scammers). After seeing several friends in different capacity getting attacked for completely unrelated cases, my rule of thumb for privacy is - if a stranger wants to physically hurt you or loved ones, how easy would it be for them to find you and get to you or them. If you are behaving illegally, the law can reach more information and they should, but it should not be so easy for a deranged foe. Privacy is life-saving in that case and it needs to be respected as such.
