I thought I remembered being taught in driver's ed that you should leave a 1 car gap for every 10mph of speed. 1-2 cars at 85mph is clearly not enough distance to stop.


That is similar to what car length adaptive cruise control does. In heavy, fast traffic, you won’t get your 7-9 car length though, due to frequent cutting in and weaving around you.
