I’m always curious why people think that blame has something to do with compassion. They’re entirely orthogonal. If you only have compassion for the blameless, you may not be doing it right.

Why should anyone feel sorry for him? He’s 40 yrs old and lost, he had the time and resources.
I don’t feel sorry for someone who throws away that many chances.

Fair enough. People who do feel compassion for those who caused their own suffering usually do so out of an awareness that they are fallible as well.
