Schwitters legacy lives on. When I was studying at the Royal College of Art I was part of the Mertziety which made yearly excursions out to the Mertz barn[1] which is where Kurt took shelter in the UK during the Second World War. It’s in a beautiful location located in Elterwater in the Lake District UK. Ian and Celia who take care of the place are very keen to share their stories to anybody who’s visiting and it’s well worth a visit for anybody who’s in the area.
For a contemporary incarnation of Schwitters attitude to making art check out Catriona Robertson [2] who was one of the original founders of Merzierty.
