As a Yahoo contractor, I did this daily. Filled in a wiki page which was emailed to the project manager at a set time. I loved it, basically a public TODO list that makes your workload clearly visible.

The manager could see you were keeping productive, and you could push back on extra work if you were already 100% busy.
