Ask HN: Co-Founder? Seeking Co-Founder?
47 points by kidsil on April 3, 2023 | hide | past | favorite | 40 comments
This is the monthly "Co-Founder? Seeking Co-Founder?" post.

It would be great if whoishiring takes over this.

Example:

SEEKING CO-FOUNDER | FinTech | CEO/Sales | US/EU/Worldwide | Pre-Seed

A great idea in the taxation niche, MVP ready to go. Ideally someone with local connections to SMEs.

I understand the sentiment but I don't think there are enough cofounder seekers for this to work as a monthly thread on HN. Perhaps https://www.ycombinator.com/cofounder-matching is helpful?

(Also, whoishiring already posts 3 threads a month and I'd rather that number go down than up! but my attempt to kill the Freelancer one, or rather to merge it in with the others, met with resistance some years ago)

Hi dang!

I think we had a short conversation about this a few months ago. Mostly this is coming out of the success of the "Who's Hiring" model. No sign-ups, no filtering. Contact whoever you'd like to contact.

On a personal note, I've met some of the most talented colleagues I've ever had a chance to work with here on HN.

I wanted to recreate the same opportunities that HN's "Who's Hiring" opened for me but focusing on Co-Founders.

Much as you generally run HN moderation well, I disagree. If the cofounder matching worked well these treads would not exist.

A monthly or at least quarterly thread enables a quick browse of what people are interested in creating. I enjoy the sentence or paragraph cofounder pitches that can be read in seconds instead of going through scores of profiles. I raise my digital pitchfork in support of these threads! 43 votes for this thread in 3 hours, seems others do to.

> If the cofounder matching worked well these threads would not exist

I'm open to your argument but that particular logic doesn't work because these things always attract different sets of eyeballs, i.e. lots of people know about the one but not the other.

Cofounder matching works well but it's a bit of work and it takes time.

Perhaps every six months for this one?

too long of an interval. Look at the LLM or Ai focused founders seeking cofounders. 6 months is a lifetime to wait if you are building that.

SEEKING CO-FOUNDER Social Commerce | CEO| Chicago/Midwest| Pre-seed

Looking for a technical co-founder. I'm in the early stages of building Styrate.co, Styrate is a social platform that uses AI to provide personalized and trustworthy product reviews. Users can follow reviewers, watch video reviews, and share lists of reviews. Think of us as a social @wirecutter powered by AI. I'm looking for someone who can help me build this out, I already built out an early MVP (Styrate.co)

Thanks for the thread.

I am loking for a part time business person/CEO. I am a tech guy. Have 15+ years experience building backend systems. Now, I build user facing websites/services and release them. I have no knowledge of marketing/sales, so if you are a non tech guy who wants to do some fun projects, hit me up. Email in profile.

Currently, I am working on a website where people can post their code and ask for feedback. (Something http://pullrequest.com/)

Note that these are mostly side projects. Unless you are very good, they will be side projects for now :)

SEEKING CO-FOUNDER | Generative AI | CEO/Engineer | Bay Area/Remote | Pre-seed

Hi everyone, I'm Hani and I'm building Artspark.io, an AI art generator with instant search capability.

I'm a software engineer working in/on startups for 10 years. I'm currently working on taking Artspark to the next level and applying generative AI art to fashion, e-commerce and community.

I'm looking for someone excited about generative AI who is "T-shaped", a generalist who is also expert in some field of engineering/design/marketing.

Forgot my email: hani@artspark.io

SEEKING CO-FOUNDER | Dev Tools | DevRel Cofounder | MVP

Hey I'm the founder of https://www.membrane.io. The platform to build team/personal automation tools.

I'm open to partnering with an engineer who's good at building a community, creating examples projects, talking to customers and generally taking over all the engineering that's not building the core tech.

Preferably someone who likes Rust (entire stack is Rust).

Feel free to DM me on twitter (same username) or juan at membrane dot io

Curious, will your software see a release any time soon? Just to surface it, your website's "news" section is quite outdated.

Yes! It’s in very much active development and getting very close to launch. The fact that the news section is outdated is exactly why I’m looking for a cofounder

I’m seeking a cofounder, perhaps even a mentor.

I have a small booking platform for surfing schools. Not limited to surfing but I decided to tackle this niche first.

Being used right now by one surfing school, perhaps more soon.

Website at nowtical.com.

Hit me if you like this space and have some design/business/sales skills. Email is pedro@grok.pt

I run SaaS businesses with $4m profit last tax year.

I am starting a new company which will make viral apps.

If you are interested in rapid growth hacking and have ideas on how to crack initial user acquisition rapidly for consumer apps, I would love to meet you.

I will be funding the operation myself and you get 40% of the company.

Thought I'd flag that you do not have contact info in your profile!

Thank you. Had to remove it once I made public my Saas profits. Non stop pitches from startups otherwise to try their product.

I'm not sure about virality, but I'm building automated ai workflow software, I think it'll be extremely profitable. I'd be more interested though in some sort of angel/vc offering, as I'd like to retain control of this company, at least until I know how far it's going to go. I've already got 5 people ready to buy, when it launches.

All the best. I am staying out of direct AI for a while because I don't want to be dependent on a few APIs. And I am also looking at far more baser human needs to go viral. But if you have 5 people and LOIs you can get angel funding right now.

My fear is AI trends towards obsoletion, and then we're penniless. If I can get some cashflow though, and put some towards also building cloud services to run AI, then at least that hardware might keep us going when one AI tool comes along that basically does what all other software projects do combined.

i have a budding interest in making viral apps!

have you made any in the past? or do you have some potential hunches on how to do them?

i haven’t, was going to start trying to make some attempts this year, static sites like istheshipstillstuck and howmuchtoiletpaper. also i don’t know how to answer the monetization question for new sites that pick up traffic quickly

monetization comes later. the initial viral nature has to be converted into retention. what i am looking for is less of istheshipstillstuck and more of gas app type growth. if that makes sense.

I think gas app type growth was cool, but I cannot imagine being on that hamster wheel long term. the goal would to have an exit at the peak and not be like snapchat. that said, I do admire blue chip sites that go viral simply b/c it feeds a global demand very simply (ie., sudoku.com); if wordle didn't sell, they could've easily surpassed their purchase price in a few months.

They did sell to discord and Facebook before that. The point is to sell but reach at least a few million users fast but those users come back and spend some time on the app. Otherwise it is not monetizable.

Hi All, I’m working on a small project called textmyapi.com (no website right now) the original idea was to allow people to invoke API calls over text messaging but with the advent of ChatGPT and related AI technologies I’d like to look at this as more of a text based AI concierge type service, and I’d love to bounce some ideas around - I think there are still a lot of opportunities around texting and so it’s more about the backend service than needing to have a flashy mobile app. Imagine just being able to text an API that gets things done for you. Basically just a phone number you can text that helps you get anything done. I’d be happy just to kick it around with anyone who has an interest and my email is:

russ@fastmail.com

Thanks!

SEEKING CO-FOUNDER | Recruitment Tech | CEO/Sales | UK/EU/US | Pre-Seed

I'm a co-founder of gethigher.io, we provably increase the signal to noise ratio for open market recruiting at a lower cost point than agencies. We put this down at the end of covid due to spending too much of our own money with not enough results and now I'm picking it back up. I'm spending 2 days a week on it technically to get it ready to niche in the crypto space (having just had a successful role and candidate feedback), I'm not a sales person and have a proven record of it. However I am a 10+ year developer.

Let's chat - adrian@gethigher.io.

Thanks

Hi, Would love to find someone interested in taking on the consumer marketing side of our project, while we develop dealer channels and corp direct sales. Sitting is killing us. What we need is a way to move more often during the workday without interrupting our focus. Movably’s smart interactive chair makes it super easy to move often while working. Our study gets published soon- the first chair ever to prevent pain in an independent study. https://www.movably.com/ Write mark at domain.

SEEKING CO-FOUNDER | B2B AI | CEO/Sales | US | MVP Hi all, I am looking for a technical co-founder who is hands on keyboard and is interested in helping businesses scale their growth. I am a tech guy and have built multiple prototypes using Node, Python etc. However I realized I am really good at focusing on sales, marketing & growth. So I am for a co-founder who is not shy of building to validate and iterate with the customers. This will involve LLMs so if you have recently worked with LLMs we can rock and roll. Hit me up at - stables.clang.0q at icloud dot com

SEEKING CO-FOUNDER | social apps/group chat | seeking devs | west coast/remote | Pre-seed

Local group chat. Been done 1000 times, but most fundamentally don’t understand the problem they are trying to solve. Grouping of nearby and with similar association can be done using clever tech methods.

Seeking skilled 1 or 2 co-founders for iOS and backend development.

Not web3 or privacy zealot. Focus on iteration and pushing out new versions. This will be built and be big, the question is by who. Us or someone else?

Me: Not tech but have built 2 things. Not first time dreamer. see link in profile.

Some feedback,

The pitch of what ‘local group chat’ means to you is still unclear to me.

Also, how do you square this circle?

> can be done using clever tech methods

> Me: Not tech but

>The pitch of what ‘local group chat’ means to you is still unclear to me.

True. It is a little vague. I will update what I mean a bit my link. Preferably I would like to talk to potential cofounders first.

>Also, how do you square this circle?

> can be done using clever tech methods

> Me: Not tech but

Not/non tech doesn't mean devoid of technical knowledge. With other people I have already built something using one of technical methods that might be used in new app. None of the technology is 100% unique and has been used in other apps. But the creators of those other apps focused on the tech instead of using it to create a useful experience that isn't already available.

SEEKING CO-FOUNDER | AI Personalization | CEO/CTO | Worldwide | Pre-seed

Currently working on pitching investors, and getting materials aligned for that. I'm also working on a prototype. The app will be centered around providing custom AI solutions, as a SaaS but also as a consultancy for more 'niche' or bigger client needs that are outside our cookie cutter applications.

Looking for: UI/UX, Designer, and Developer.

Experience in langchain/prompt engineering a major plus.
