I'd support this and any other stupid change that will further cement the demise of Twitter. Can't see it actually happening though.

Agreed (sadly)

Seems like a bad move for the business but maybe good for (some) users?

I say good for users, but that entirely depends on the userbase.

For example, _if_ HN didn't exist as it does now (free) and was paid only, I wouldn't mind paying as its the best "social network" I know of. Problem is, would it ever get to this point if it were paid only? Also seems like any user that would pay, would pay to reach an audience... of non-paying users...

Either way, I don't see a world where this actually works out, but god speed I guess.

This would be _absolutely hilarious_.

Probably makes more sense to make it free for viewers, cost money for more than 10 posts per (fill in time period here). And then for an abundance of views, you start getting money back (youtube model).

That would be fantastic as it would force me once and for all to delete my account and move on.

If your account doesn't have any way to charge you, it's more likely that your account would be auto-deleted after a period of "delinquency". Make the platform do the work.

Of course, that's probably why he's so eager to hoover up photo IDs and CC info - by continuing a passive account on the platform you've totally given your explicit informed consent to be charged whatever Lord Xoldemort thinks his platform is worth that month...
