Otherwise, it’s an interesting article on a great bit of kit.
My uncle bought a Russian Uaz 4x4 back in the late 90s. Great run to run around in. Incredibly basic, even had a hand crank start if the batteries died. But dual batteries, dual fuel tanks, and no amenities at all.
The bit about 6x6 being rarer than 4x4 is just plain wrong.
It's 4x4 that's almost nonexistent. That niche was taken by GAZ-66 Shishiga.
EDIT: actually GAZ-66 is better as a camper because it's smaller, lighter, can handle rougher terrain and eats only 30L/100km of gasolne -- not 50 like the 131 while mounting the same kung (КУНГ) module (living place etc) like the 131 that's pictured in the article.
