let's be honest, WEI & similar are poor approaches to solve market-issues framed wrongly as a "user problem".

The web is a generic platform, powered by general-purpose tech and methods, therefore it's "open", "cheap", and easily accessible, that's why it's popular and adopted globally.
There are tradeoffs - choose web for being cheap, open and accessible, or chose to build expensive, risky custom standalone services.
