I love these sorts of collections of cards and similar things. The amount of design that goes into them and the different tech used is thrilling. I also love the retro design of the website (though I suspect that the owner is no longer a 9th grade student).

I'm personally a big fan of passports and other travel documents. Because of the official and international character of them, there are government run databases like PRADO [1] and EdisonTD [2] that let you see all the different features of each document.

I am disappointed to say I haven't seen a public database that covers driving licenses in such detail, but I'd love to know if anyone has seen one.

I was intrigued to find a green-cover US passport on that second site; I had one (they were issued in April 1993 to March 1994 for the 200th anniversary of the US Consular Service).

Finding out why it was green was suprisingly hard at the time.

I hope those cards are deactivated… so many IDs and bar codes.

Almost all will never have been activated in the first place. The collection's owner presumably wrote to libraries asking for unactivated cards, so as to avoid eligibility issues from hindering his request.
