Norman Lear took two 1960s British TV comedies, Till Death Do Us Part and Steptoe & Son, remade them in his own fashion in the early 1970s, and in so doing upended the U.S.A.'s TV programming and wider culture forever with All In The Family and Sanford & Son, with further spinoff series.
