The structure or grand narrative to organize these concepts into a coherent whole is always missing though. Not sure about it. We build more sophisticated programming architectures than pop psychology presents to us in these articles.

It is up to you to build your own grand narrative. People can give you the pieces, but you have to build it yourself. You'll understand why once you're well underway.
