I find it deeply concerning that the idea of diversity these people are advancing excludes diverse viewpoints and differing opinions. All kinds of diversity is allowed, as long as you agree in lockstep with us on everything.

I'm seeing this need for ideology purity pushed everywhere, in places where ideology should not matter. As far as I am concerned, as long as people are respectful they should be welcomed to contribute to the project.

Bear in mind the story you are reading is being selectively presented after being filtered by Bryan Lunduke who certainly appears to have a torch to carry. https://old.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/muc18q/whats_the_dea...

We have a local phrase for people who push lines that are contrary to observable facts: they're attempting to "piss against the moon".

That seems less risky than pissing into the wind .. Lunduke appears to be a urophiliac.

This is becoming a larger trend and it will hurt open source generally because of the efforts at pushing American culture war issues globally.

I try hard to work with projects which are not Western-centric for this reason or at least which have a commitment to a community which admits of disagreement on issues.

The paradox of Popper's Paradox of Tolerance is those that use his Paradox of Intolerance as a weapon are doing so in the name of unlimited tolerance and fulfil the actual conditions that Popper stated would lead to the elimination of the tolerant through the ascendancy of the intolerant:

>Less well known is the paradox of tolerance: Unlimited tolerance [i.e. "diversity at all costs"] must lead to the disappearance of tolerance [i.e. the ability to agree to disagree]. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant [i.e. heretic-hunting ideological conformists], if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them.

Tolerance is not enthusiastic embrace, but "the willingness to accept or tolerate someone or something, especially opinions or behavior that you may not agree with, or people who are not like you." These heresy hunters are strictly intolerant by the meaning of the word and destroy the predicates of a tolerant society.
