There Is No Antimemetics Division is such a creative, page-turning, terrifying read and I'm glad it's getting the author some recognition from the big publishers. It's one of those books that keeps returning to my thoughts every so often and I can't wait to see the improved version next year!
Nice. For all the HN positivity about the book it was a bit of a mess honestly. It needed a publisher and guidance from experienced writers. The self published version I read even had numerous typos and was extremely unedited. I do give the book a lot of points for originality but structurally it was a mess. It literally had an interlude midway through. I’m all for unusual story structure but in this case it was a mess and went really off the rails at that point.
If the core idea can come through without the raw structural problems I’m looking forward to it. As it stands I personally do not recommend the book. There’s a lot of good books out there. Currently loving the Murderbot diaries for some unusual sci fi themed stories. Will look forward to this post editing.
Having read what's now v1, I had no idea it was not professionally produced or edited. I knew the background, that it started on the SCP Foundation; I did not know that the book was self-published.
Yes, it's that good.
For this new, good for qtnm. One of the best (and most terrifying) scifi authors out there. They say they're interested to see what they do for the sequel: so am I. Whatever it is, I know it'll be worth reading.
