Oh, it's not merely the wages. It's the utter gamification of entire occupations.

Once again, my theory that gamers become atrocious developers (and middle managers) is proving true. The gig-work apps are like real-life A.R. video games, complete with quests, badges, level up, and really perverse incentives that all march toward a thankless, joyless grind.

I've never enjoyed unionization or job security. Yet I've steadfastly refused every employment except W-2 with reputable firms. Sometimes a staffing company is ok. Anything below that is an exploitive scam, unless you've got really good boundaries. Large and publicly traded corporations aren't kind, but they certainly abide by employment regulations.

Thankfully I don't need to work for support or survival. My heart goes out to all those who are trampled underfoot by this relentless Juggernaut.
