Being new to CV, I have what is probably a stupid question: I see that you do text detection, but what then? Does your library have the ability to do OCR on the text? And if not, what is your recommended way to do OCR on the text?

No, ccv doesn't do OCR. Tesseract: https://code.google.com/p/tesseract-ocr/
