A presidential pardon doesn't "Wipe anything out". It's still on your record. It's not expunged

It’s not expunged but you have a letter from the president saying you shouldn’t have been convicted in the first place. The meaning is different even thought the legal outcomes are the same.

A president will still commute when they think you did do something wrong but were unjustly punished.
