Because money (a clever concept people invented) is more important than people.

This is about a company, another clever concept people invented, and companies depend conceptually on money. You can't have companies without money: you have to hand bookkeeping and the bookkeeping must have a positive number on the bottom line. Using reserves from previous years is legal, but there must be a positive number. That's just part of being a company.

I feel sad for all the company managers who have to plan for a very uncertain future due to Trump's frequent u-turns, and for the employees they fire.

Brutal, just calling them low performers?

Companies are really hammering the point lately that we should not have any loyalty towards them. Workers should just extract as much money for the least amount of work possible from businesses.

IDK, feels like corporate America wants to be ruthless as possible lately, operate with no empathy at all.

Why is everything in the US so polarizing right now? Does it have to be "the least amount of work"? Why is this so adversarial? Why not do the (healthier IMO) thing instead, and do your best while keeping a good work/life balance and call it a day? Do you not get a fuzzy feeling when you do good work and are successful? I know it's sometimes called the programmer's high, but it can't be just in that field...

> Why is this so adversarial?

These companies make it so, by doing things like insulting and disparaging the workers they're laying off.

I don't think it's polarizing. Jobs are how we keep our lives together. With dehumanizing business practices, we need to only look out for our selves and family. After an 8 month job search and financial stress none of that other stuff matters.

I think workers want what you described. And silicon valley /sf bay area companies used to create environments like you described and I think we were mostly satisfied. But it feels like it's not like that anymore. Companies are lo the ones being adversario imo
