The great irony though was that what caused the Great Fire was burning tally sticks that were the government's half of tax receipts.

There's something deliciously ironic about trying to dispose of tax receipts causing both houses of parliament to be burned to the ground.

Never, never underestimate the humble tally stick ;-)
