The choices for this are, frankly, embarrassingly inadequate. They show a clear bias for the HN echo chamber of young 20-somethings. There are plenty of people in the industry - and on HN - who work on boring, enterprise problems, who would choose values way outside of what the range we see here.

I really wish HN had a "best comment" system. I would totally reddit gold you right now.

What are you testing? The effects of basic reverse psychology on HN'ers? Are we doing better or worse than the 5-year-old child control group?

I hate to be the one who has to say it; but how can we be sure this isn't a test by the NSA to infiltrate the HN opinion network.

This is clearly manipulating the bitcoin market.

Clearly. I mean, come on.

Note: the results of this poll are highly biased. Most people in a proper sample would prefer 1 over 2 at a 2x ratio: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benford's_law.

"please ignore"

"12 points" in "5 minutes"

If I've learned something on the web, is that asking for something to be ignored will just make it more famous.

"Poll"

"Please ignore, checking bug"

I "upvoted" to support "debugging".

Please "ignore".

"quotations used liberally in comments"

Those were all copied from the poll.

Looks like it is one of those posts on HN that beg to question - will HN sustain its quality?

No, of course not, any funny post means the death of all good content on this site, ever.

Do not upvote this comment. This is srs business.

Also 2.2 is clearly better when compared to other option, namely 1.1. As a matter of fact, you can fit two 1.1's in a single 2.2, which leads me to conclude that 2.2 is 100% better.

Don't you tell me what to do! Upvoted.

If this is a test of the average maturity of the users of this site . . . we have failed, myself included.

Anybody with experience knows that the x.1 release is more stable than the x.0 version; and x.2 has even further bug fixes. And 2.0 has more features than 1.0, to boot! So why isn't everyone picking 2.2?

Some real data from this poll: HNers are compassionate people - they vote mostly for the underdog number, so the number of the votes are almost equal. (21st minute from the poll 136:138)

What is the probability that 1.1 == 2.2?

<%= snarky_hn_comment %>

You forgot the (), I think

Is the bug that one can select both options or has it always been like that?

test post please ignore

I want 3.3!

Go 2!

goto fail;

return nil;
